Hygienic clipping

Many dogs have a great deal of hair which grows around the anus or genitals, which gets extremely dirty and smelly.  It is more than often found that removal of most of the hair by clipping provides an adequate solution to these problems.

Micro-Chipping

All aspects of your dog's health and wellbeing are catered for at The Whole Groom and we are pleased to now offer a micro-chipping service. Your groomer is fully qualified to insert a micro-chip under the dog's skin, which can be used as a form of security for both dog and owner. Please ask for this additional service if required.

General Health and Wellbeing

We consider it our duty to care for your pet in and out of the grooming salon. Where possible we will give our utmost attention to its overall health and wellbeing.  We will always try to report to you any incident or injury, which takes place in the salon, though we endeavour to ensure that your pets complete safety throughout its stay with us. It is advisable to continue to seek advice from your vet and keep an annual routine check; this way the needs of your pet will be suitably met and maintained.

Ears

Your dog's ears will be checked and normally cleaned every grooming session, regardless of the breed.   To promote good hygiene, the ears are carefully cleaned to remove wax, small bits of mud or vegetation.   We will then, if necessary carefully remove intrusive, stray hair strands, this will help to prevent ear infection.   It is helpful for the circulation to reduce the weight of the ears and therefore it maybe advantageous for us to trim or clip the ear area, depending on the breed of your dog. If the ears are showing problematic signs including redness, swelling, discharge or offensive smells, then we will not clean the ears and inform you of your dog’s condition.

Eyes

Eyes should be bright and clear, with no signs of runniness, redness, soreness or dirt present. We will check your dog’s eyes to ensure they are healthy.  If they need a clean, then we’ll begin by removing the effects of dirt and other alien particles that may have become matted around the eye. If the eye is suffering from redness, discharge, scabs or swollenness we’ll inform you of our findings.

Teeth

Bad breath is not just a cosmetic or social problem - we all know dogs with bad breath can be less than pleasant company! Bad breath can indicate an underlying digestive or kidney problem. Or more commonly it is an indication of bacterial overgrowth and plaque on the teeth or the gums, which can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Teeth should be white or cream with no excess tartar, which looks thick and brown. The gums should be a healthy pink (or black depending on skin pigmentation) and not red, swollen or bleeding.  It is important to keep the dog’s teeth as clean as possible; we promote teeth cleaning.  If the teeth look infected or the gums look very red then we will advise you accordingly.

Nail clipping

As well as the health issues, long claws are unwelcome and unsightly.  They can even affect the posture of your dog if not attended to, and be very painful.  We will check and attend to the claws on every visit, although it may not always be necessary for us to trim them.

Prevention is better than cure and your dog's health and wellbeing is no exception to this rule! Here at ‘The whole Groom’ we recommend that your dog is checked carefully and systematically for possible early signs of illness every month. Some dogs are extremely good at hiding ill health or pain, so it’s better to err on the side of caution.
